An awesome group of ladies put on their jeans and rolled up their sleeves for a fun day of sanding, painting and creativity. The October 17th and 20th workdays were in support of the Flip it for Hope program of There is Hope International the adopted charity of Abundance Chicks in Vancouver, WA. There is Hope serves women in the aftermath of crisis, trauma and abuse. Participating in Flip it for Hope is a great way for the community to be involved in something that directly benefits women in need; and, at the same time, it’s a lot of fun. These workdays are about RESTORING AND RENEWING FURNITURE – RESTORING AND RENEWING LIVES!
Abundance Chicks are supporting a sister Chick’s charity with a lot of laughter and a more than a little elbow grease! Abundance Chick, Leona Bicknese, founder and director of this non-profit, says that she had a blast working on these projects with her sister Chicks. She really got a kick out of hearing Peggy Boheman repeatedly say, “I can’t believe how much fun this is!” Other encouraging comments included, “This is so much fun, can we do this again?” and, “Wow, this is really a good way to relieve stress.” Leona jokes, “Yes, distressing furniture is really de-stressing!”
These Chicks are bringing new life to unwanted, discarded furniture and home décor items. Some of these ladies were learning new skills and finding a new way to express their creativity as they de-stressed themselves! Others came with previous experience, but everyone jumped right in like pros!
All this creativity took place at the Flip it for Hope workroom in the lower level of Boomerang, a coffee shop and upscale consignment store in downtown Vancouver, WA. After the projects are finished a Flip it for Hope tag, signed by all who worked on the piece, will be attached, the projects will be brought upstairs, and then the furniture and home décor items will be available for purchase!
In addition, the finished pieces will be highlighted at There is Hope International’s fundraising event, An Evening to Celebrate Hope, Saturday, Nov. 14th from 6:00 to 8:30 at Boomerang. This evening of hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be an opportunity to learn about all of There is Hope’s programs and is the official launching of Flip it for Hope.
